Felt ball pinecone decorations

Felt ball pine cone decorations

Pinecones decorated with colourful balls of wool make lovely decorations at this time of year. And if you celebrate Christmas in your house they look great as miniature Christmas trees – or as decorations hung up on a real tree.

What you will need:

Pinecones

Mini wool felt balls or pom poms

Craft glue

Twine or thread for hanging it up with

What you need to do:

1.       Go for a walk in a wood or park and collect some pinecones. Pinecones fall off pine trees, which are green at this time of year and come from the conifer family. Pines are tall, green trees with prickly needles for leaves. Head for these when you get outside and you should be able to find a nice selection.

2.       Look for pinecones with big enough gaps between their scales to fit your felt balls or pom poms.

4.       To attach your felt balls, they might fit between the scales perfectly, in which case you won’t need to use glue. However, if they don’t smear a bit of glue onto each felt ball before inserting it between two scales of your pine cone then press it firmly in place until it’s stuck.

5.       Repeat this for your other woolen balls or pom poms – you might want to put them in lines, or dot them around. You could put one on top.

6.       When your pine cones are finished you can put them on a shelf or tie some twine to the top of them and hang them up.
